Kristy gave us apple butter for christmas, and I have actually never received apple butter before. But today I realize what a big treat it is. We put it in our oatmeal, and I plan to put it on some rolls and make apple butter rolls. The web highway says you can put in on pork chops too. My thought is that apple butter was probaly one of those treats back in the day that farm kids would freak out about when their mother said, "we are going to have apple butter on our pork chops tonight." I picture these little kids saying "yippy." Today when I said we were going to put apple butter in our oatmeal, Ruby said, "I love apple butter in my oatmeal."
I hate salads but if I could get one of my salads to taste like this each time then I would eat a huge bowel everyday. In this salad I ate green lettuce, red bell pepper, shredded carrot, sunflower seeds and broccoli. A little fresh parmesean over the top. What it all came down to was the salad dressing. I mixed a little red wine vinegar, dijion musturd, olive oil, a little dill, one garlic clove and a scallion. Um mmh, so good. :)
see that hill in the background. That is the biggest hill near our house. I had to practically beg Ruby to go down this hill. She liked it once she tried it. Moxy on the other hand would not get into the sled. Greg says that he accidently let go of both of them at the sand pit and they went down a big hill and it scared him. This is part of the national wildlife behind these signs. The one signs on the right reads " Area closed no public entry. Contaminents and physical hazards are present." This is the sand pits, which much bigger hills. Neither of the kids wanted to sled down these hills, so we walked and walked and walked.
Moxy really enjoys breaking apart all the coloring crayons and shoving them into the wall heater. They have crayons everywhere around the house, so I have been wanting to make chunky crayons that he cannot break.
This is what they look like when they come out of the oven. I baked them at 175 degrees for 25 minutes.
This is them cooling and setting. I was a little worried that they would not pop out of the pan, but they came out so easily. This is my tribute crayon to the United States of America. Go USA, USA, USA!
Our friend Daniel was out ice fishing with a net, and brought us a bunch of white fish. The kids are really excited because they love to eat fish, but they also look a little surprised to see frozen fish. Big mouth!
I thought this was a cool trailer about the K-300. I think there is going to be a show after the race ends. K-300 is the local dog sled race which goes for 300 miles. It is a qualifying race for the Iditerod. Lance Mackey is here for the first time, he has won the Iditerod 3 times. This year the weather is brutal. -15 degrees with windchill making it -50 degrees.

We went to the K-300 Fiddle dance. The kids were the first on the dance floor. Below: Moxy headed to that well lit door where cakes and treats are waiting to be sold. He would strut across the floor, trying to be sneaky. We would catch him throughout the evening trying to grab juice boxes and snickers from the snack cart. He would have got away with it, if mommy and daddy were not watching. Finally Moxy sleeping in the kid area. He lasted until about 11:00, this freed Greg and I up to finally dance.
