Plastic Revisited Again and Again

So- plastics have come back into the news again as Canada decided to attempt to put an end to BPA containing plastics. Our own government has really done nothing to protect us from company's that just don't seem to care about the health of people. I thought this was a nice little reference to keep in mind when purchasing plastics from companies in general. It came from "z-rec blog" and it shows the company's that actively care about health down to the company's that don't seem to think twice about the health of their consumers....babies and children!

Rare Event

Both Ruby and Moxy fell fast asleep. Sleeping at the lunch table is actually pretty normal for Ruby, but it was special for Moxy to join her. Greg explained to me that this was a peaceful and rare moment for him since he took over baby duties in the day.

Wall Colors

We just discovered a new canvas for coloring...on the wall. It is really great, Ruby can color as much as she wants because it wipes right off. I think she is really happy about her art work in this picture.

Pesto Pizza

I found this recipe from Farm Girl Fare blog. It is a low fat version to pesto sauce, and really delicious.

Recipe:( I halved this recipe)
about 1-1/2 cups

1/2 cup (about 2-1/2 ounces) raw or roasted whole almonds
4 ounces fresh basil leaves (about 4 cups packed, but it's best if you weigh it)
6 Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
6 large cloves garlic, peeled
1/2 cup finely grated pecorino romano cheese (I used plain old parmesean from the plastic containter from the store)
10 ounces fresh tomatoes (about 3 smallish) any kind, quartered
1/2 teaspoon salt

If using raw almonds, spread them on a baking sheet or piece of aluminum foil and place in a 350 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes--a toaster oven works great for this, especially in summer.

Mix all ingredients, including almonds, in a food processor until thoroughly combined and the consistency you like. Or you can use a giantic mortar and pestle if you're trying to build up your arm muscles. Add more salt to taste if necessary.

Bucket Head

Ruby likes to put various things on poor Moxy's head. Somtimes she puts hats on him, but today she decided that he needed a bucket. She decided to dump her toys out of the bucket and minutes later, Moxy became a "bucket head." He was not hurt in this picture, and actually pulled it off and shoved it back at Ruby. They are really starting to play together. Don't worry because Moxy got Ruby back and grabbed a huge handful of hair from her head later on..

Caribean Jerk Sauce Veggie Burritos

I love this baked rice, it's the only way I can make rice turn out. This is an Elton ? foodNetwork guy's recipe
Baked Brown/rice:
place the following ingredients in a square bake dish, add:
brown rice/barley 50/50, 75/25 which ever you like most
1 pat of butter or tablespoon of olive oil
2 1/2 cups BOILING water
cover with foil, place in a 375 degree oven and bake for 60 minutes. Done

Stir fry some veggies place on the brown rice which is placed on a tortilla, and smother in Carribean Jerk Sauce!! Whoa hoo!
Recipe for Caribean Jerk Sauce:
5 tablespoons of olive oil or veggie oil
2 tablespoons of tomato sauce (I used Ragu)
4 tablespoons of soy, tamari, or bragg's sauce
1 tablespoon of cumin
1 tablespoon of dried parsely
1 tablespoon of coriander
1 tablespoon of allspice
1 tablespoon of Fresh grated (small grater) ginger or 1 tablespoon of dried ginger
4 cloves of grated garlic (with small grater) 5 if your feeling really spicey inside
1 tablespoon of hotsauce or jalepeno to your taste (I omit because Ruby doesn't like it spicey)
We like our jerk sauce to be smothered lightly, We tried it smothered heavily and it was too much. Sometimes we bring it to the table and add to make the meal more jerk sauce friendly.

Wham!

Saucer Fun

I didn't realize that Ruby liked her old saucer so much.
