White Fish

Our friend Daniel was out ice fishing with a net, and brought us a bunch of white fish.
The kids are really excited because they love to eat fish, but they also look a little surprised to see frozen fish.
Big mouth!

K300 Dog Race

Kuskokwim 300: A Race Like No Other TRAILER from Chris Ho on Vimeo.

I thought this was a cool trailer about the K-300. I think there is going to be a show after the race ends. K-300 is the local dog sled race which goes for 300 miles. It is a qualifying race for the Iditerod. Lance Mackey is here for the first time, he has won the Iditerod 3 times. This year the weather is brutal. -15 degrees with windchill making it -50 degrees.

The morning after the race start. This weather is so horrible. I hate to think of those poor dog feet out there on that ice.

We went to the K-300 Fiddle dance. The kids were the first on the dance floor. Below: Moxy headed to that well lit door where cakes and treats are waiting to be sold. He would strut across the floor, trying to be sneaky. We would catch him throughout the evening trying to grab juice boxes and snickers from the snack cart. He would have got away with it, if mommy and daddy were not watching.

Finally Moxy sleeping in the kid area. He lasted until about 11:00, this freed Greg and I up to finally dance. Ruby is the photographer in this picture.

Mango Monsters

The kids love to eat mangos. They each got there own half and I was able to spend 15 minutes of quiet time watching them devour each little square. I was surprised how good this mango tasted. It is a huge organic monster.

Nothing "Beets" Cucumbers

We never had a beet before. It has really beautiful colors. The kids licked it, but stuck with the cucumber. Greg picked every beet out of his salad, so techniquly I am the only one that tried it. They were crunchy like a carrot compared to a canned beet.

New Earings

Ruby decided that she wanted earings today. So we loaded the kids up in the car -7 degree weather with a 30 below windchill and went to Swanson's. They had a trained ear piercer who looked about 16 years old. She did a good job, and used good clean technique. Ruby let out a cry at the first piercing, she then got prepared for the next one. She was super brave. She says " I was so scared." As soon as she saw herself in the mirror, she was so excited, and of course now she seems to have forgotten the experience.

Coloring Contest Winner

Ruby "won" a coloring contest from Subway in the 3-year-old category. She got a free kid's meal. Above is the picture that appeared in the local newspaper. Moxy got a free kid's meal too, just for showing up with Ruby to Subway. He was dancing to the pop music coming from the ceiling, and this may have improved his chances.

Chimichanga's and Reindeer Squash soup

This is the most fattening dinner ever. Fried in Vegetable oil and Greg's were stuffed with ham, beans, and cheese. They were so good. You really cannot beat fried anything. We were somewhat healthy with the lettuce and tomatoes. Oh yah, we smothered it with pico de gallo (cut up tomatoes, cilantro, onion, jalapeno, and garlic, with a squirt of honey and lime) :)))
This is Greg's creation of squash soup (which is amazing that he ate it), with sage leaves and reindeer sausage.

Kid Play

The kiddos got two tents for Christmas, twice the fun. If you look close you can see Moxy's legs flying through the window of the circus tent. Moxy claims the circus tent as his house, and Ruby and Isabel claimed the mushroom house as thier own. Moxy seems to take the back seat with these two, but don't worry he holds his own. :)

Christmas 2009

Ruby is surprised by the mushroom house. Her and Moxy started taking their presents into the house to open in secret. They don't think mom and dad can see them from the mushroom window.

The kids are playing playing and playing while talking to Grandma Simmons, uncle Andrew, and Auntie Laura in New York.

Ruby made a playground out of her blocks. Do you see the slide?

Auntie Susan sent the kids some Handful clothing for Christmas. Super cute. Greg's in the background still trying to recover from the holiday.
